The passage picks up the themes of Y1,1 with "industrialization in literature," or the force of technology in artisanal practice. "Scribe" here is the name of a writer, a figure, an actual person, but very much references the ancient and defunct traditional practice, not unlike bricklaying, as well as the act of writing, in this case copying, and in that case citation.
